Anatomy of eye
Two fluid compartments
Aqueous humor - water fluid in anterior part of eye, in front of lens
Viteous humor - gel like fluid, fills entire posterior chamber of eye, behind lens
Three tunics (layers)
Outer tunic
Cornea - Transparent, thick layer that allows light to pass through
Sclera - white covering, allows extrinsic muscle attachment
Optic nerve - Cranial nerve II, that carries retinal ganglionic cell axons to brain
Middle tunic
Choriod coat - between sclera and retina, covers entire posterior part of eye, dark pigments that help absorb light
-
Ciliary body - composed of muscles, processes, and ligaments arranged in a ring around the lens
Muscles pull on lens via suspension ligaments, changing the shape of the lens to a rounded or oval shape

-
Other eye structures
Eyelids - made of 4 layers of tissue, skin, muscle, connective tissue, and conjunctiva
Conjunctiva - outermost layer of eyelid, continuous through sclera, to edge pf cornea. Thin membrane that contains secretory epithelium Lubricate eye for eyelid closure
-
Lacrimal apparatus
Made of lacrimal gland, lacrimal ducts, and lacrimal sac. purpose is to produce tears
-
Located superior and lateral to eye and secretes tears, which are released into sclera of eye
