Leave eligibility under Employment Act and Child Development Co-Saving Act
Employment Act
sets out the general terms and conditions of employment and the basic right and duties of the employers and employees
The EA does not cover the following
:
Any person employed in a managerial or executive position who earns a basic monthly salary of more than $4500
Any seafarer
Any domestic worker
Any person employed by a statutory board or the government
Child Development Co-Savings Act
an act that encourage married persons in Singapore to have more children
It covers parents of Singapore Citizen children, including Managerial, Executive and Confidential Staff.
Types of Leaves
Maternity Leave
The Employment Act and the Child Development and Co-Savings Act grants certain protection and benefits for mothers
Employment Act
entitled to 12 weeks if the mother:
Is covered by the Employment Act.
has work at least 3 months
Has given her employer at least 1 week’s notice before going on maternity leave
Child Development and Co-Savings Act
entitled to 16 weeks if the mother:
Has given her employer at least 1 week’s notice before going on maternity leave
Is lawfully married to the child’s father
Has served the employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months immediately before the birth of her child
Paternal Leave
entitled to 2 weeks of paid paternity leave
Shared Paternal Leave
Working father, can currently apply to share up to 4 weeks of their wife’s 16 weeks of Government-Paid Maternity Leave, subject to their wife’s agreement.
Childcare Leave
Each spouse gets 6 days per year of childcare leave until the year their child turns 7 years old, regardless of the number of children.
Parents eligible for 6 Days of Childcare Leave:
The child is a Singapore Citizen
The youngest child is below the age of 7
The parent has at least work for their employer for a continuation of 3 months
Sick Leave
An employee is entitled to both paid sick leave and paid hospitalisation leave if they have worked for at least 3 months with their employer.
The sick leave should be certified by a company doctor, a company-approved doctor or government doctor
