Describe non-polar covalent, polar covalent, ionic and dative covalent
Non-polar covalent means both atoms have the same electronegativity value. Polar covalent means that there some charged areas and some neutral areas in the molecule. Ionic bonding means there is only ionic bonds present in the molecule. In dative covalent bonds, the shared pair of electrons both come from the same atom.

Polarisation
If the degree of polarization is quite small, an ionic bond is formed, while if the degree of polarization is large, a covalent bond results. The ability of a cation to distort an anion is known as its polarization power and the tendency of the anion to become polarized by the cation is known as its polarizability.
