I will be honest with you. I did not know that I wanted to go ahead with ball room dancing but I decided yeah I will just give it a shot and I will see how it goes. It was a though year because it was after 9/11. Something positive has to come out of this. These kids need something up lifting. Although I am not such a great fun of hard competition or winning. I was thrilled with the outcome and that is why we are still doing it (Alyssa Polack, Principal)
The children and the most of the people come from Dominican Republic. The children do not have much advantage. 97% poverty rate in the school. They come to school with issues. This program is free for the kids. They have the advantage of learning something new of perfecting it and of being successful and they will compete because they want to win (Clarita Zeppie, Principal)
It is not just a physical education it is knowledge of other cultures, it is life.
Teachers or coaches become an active member of the community who dances with learners, go with them to select their dresses, be a subject of the community rather than the leader of the community.
