Bacteria enters the alveoli
WBC migrate to pulmonary capillaries that surround alveoli

Bacteria continues to grow throughout alveoli
Increased inflammatory mediators in alveoli (I.e. cytokines)
Substances begin to die within alveoli - bacteria, WBCs- creating a layer of infiltrate
