1793: The cotton Jin was created which cleaned cotton faster than ever. This invention made the demand for cotton rise, and in turn, the need for slaves exponentially increased.
1803: Cotton is the leading American export. This meant that the pressure for cotton to meet the demand was heightened.
1793: Cotton became the leading cash crop in America. The production of cotton brought a ton of business from Great Britain and Europe- as well as other places around the world.
1664: the East India company was importing a quarter of a million pieces into England alone. This was huge in Englands economy.
1839: Manchester's cotton mills used nearly 200,000 children. This was child labor. In 1937, Congress passed the fair labor standards act, which outlawed child labor.
1808: The U.S. banned the importation of slaves. This said, people still found ways to import slaves illegally.
1790: Samuel Slater created the first water-powered American cotton mill. This revolutionized the textile industry.
1861: The American civil war was caused by the slavery that was involved in the picking of cotton. This time was referred to as "King Cotton"
3000 BC: Cotton production first started in Pakistan. This would soon become one of the most important and traded commodities in the world.

1949: The first commercial mechanical harvester of cotton was created in Memphis. This inspired others to also work on mechanical harvesters and make more efficient models down the road.
