Hemostasis & coagulation
sequence of hemostasis
(1) vasoconstriction: injured endothelium secrete endothelin locally (this is a potent vasoconstrictor)
-
(3) secondary hemostasis: coagulation cascade activation, exposure of tissue factor, procoagulant factor
(4) thrombus control: fibrin polymerizes (forms a solid permanent plug), the counter -regulatory process t-PA is set in motion to restrict clotting to site of the injury

these reactions can occur without their co-factors (VIII & V) but the reactions take orders of magnitude longer (seconds vs milliseconds)
