Lymphoreticular system
components
-
cells
lymphocytes: B-cells, T-cells, and natural killer cells
macrophages (microglial cells, alveolar macrophages, tissue histiocytes, hepatic Kupffer cells, glomerular mesangium)
-
lymph nodes
secondary line of defense (intersitial fluid is monitored as it moves through the lymphatic channels and nodes)
location: along pathway of lymphatic circulation, 100-200 clustered around head/neck, thorax, abd, and pelvis
-
-
-
-
capsule: dense irregular connective tissue surrounds the node with projections into the parenchyma called trabeculae
reticular fibers: form a network that supports the intersitial compartments (can only see the fibers with a special stain)
