- - - - Upon completion of her mission, Tereshkova was honoured with the title Hero of the Soviet Union. She never flew again, but she did become a spokesperson for the Soviet Union. While fulfilling this role, she received the United Nations Gold Medal of Peace. On top of this she won many awards and was the first women in space!
    - - Valentina Tereshkova helped to usher in an era of equality in human spaceflight and she gave hope to women everywhere in the world.
    - - Courage, patient, brave, independent, ambitious and good at problem solving.
    - - It takes a lot of courage to go into space and try something different, which is what Valentina Tereshkova did. She was patient when she spent those 48 days in space. She is independent because she mainly worked by herself. She had to be very good at problem solving because there was quite a few mishaps.
    - - Sending Valentina Tereshkova into space helped to usher in an era of equality in human spaceflight.
  - - - Valentina Tereshkova persisted to achieve her goal even when her father died when she was at the age of two and when she was brought up single handedly by her mother.
    - - Valentina Tereshkova was greatly inspired by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961.
    - - Valentina put lots of effort into training so that she could get picked to go into space. An effect of all of her effort she put into training, she is now a master.
    - - Valentina responded to feedback by got help along the way when she was in training. She had never actually had any pastime background or experience in the area apart from her 120 parachute jumps so she would have had to had a lot of feedback when training for the conditions of space.
    - - Valentina Tereshkova contacted ground control and they succeeded in sending and installing a new computer program, when her aircraft was programmed wrong. If she had not done this, instead of returning to Earth - where she parachuted safely out of the craft from nearly seven kilometres up - the fragile craft in which she would orbit Earth 48 times over two days, 22 hours and 50 minutes, would have spun on and on into outer space for ever.
