Commercial fishing

Western Australia’s vibrant commercial fishing industry is mainly based on low-volume, high-value products, such as the western rock lobster. Our high-quality fisheries have given us an international reputation as a premium-quality seafood producer. Most of our seafood is exported, the major export destinations being China (including Hong Kong), Japan, USA, Taiwan and Singapore.://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-and-Aquaculture/Commercial-Fishing/Pages/default.aspx

Spearfishing

Abrolhos Islands - Whaling and guano mining at the Abrolhos in the past has given way to fishing and tourism, but remnants of the Abrolhos’ colourful history still remains. Structures built by the Batavia survivors, early explorers and guano miners can still be seen on the islands today.

There are a number of commercial fisheries operating including:
West Coast Rock Lobster Managed Fishery;
Abrolhos Islands and Mid-West Trawl Managed Fishery
West Coast Demersal Scalefish (Interim) Managed Fishery
Marine Aquarium Fish Managed Fishery and
Specimen Shell Managed Fishery.
Recreational fishing at the Abrolhos is fantastic, but it’s important to fish by the rules. That way, we make sure fishing at the Abrolhos in enjoyable both now and into the future. Abrolhos waters are inside a Fish Habitat Protection Area in the West Coast Bioregion.
