What is it?
Removal of:
Gall bladder
Head of pancreas
Duodenum
Distal part of stomach
Remainder of stomach, pancreas and common bile duct are joined at the jejunum
Who's it for?
Those with tumours located at:
Gall bladder (cholangiocarcinoma)
Proximal duodenum
Head of pancreas
Ampulla of Vater (periampullary) - union of pancreatic duct and common bile duct in duodenum
Nutritional Goals
Maintain/improve nutritional status in the postoperative period
Assist to minimise postoperative symptoms
Maintain/improve nutritional status in the preoperative period
Medical Mgt
Jejunostomy inserted at time of surgery
Fat requirements
Enzymes added
E & P requirements
Adjunctive chemotherapy may be applied
