Nutritional Goals
Ensure a nutritionally adequate diet post op
Assist to minimise residual symptoms
Transition to normal diet post op
Nutritional Strategies
Post-op diet transition varies w surgeon
Often free fluids for 2 weeks
Pureed/mashed diet for 2 wks
Soft diet for 2 weeks then progress to full diet as tolerated
Eat/drink food slowly
Nourishing fluids on fluid stage
Avoid 'burp' food/drinks (soft drink, gum)
Chew food well and avoid foods hard to break down when on soft diet
Sit upright for 60 mins after meal
