Measles
Symptoms
Cough, runny nose, inflamed eyes, sore throat, fever and a red blotchy skin rash.
Cause
Measles is a horrible disease that usually happens to kids when they are younger. If it happens to someone when they’re an adult, it means that something is wrong and immediately take them to hospital. In the old days they didn’t have lots of hospitals, they did but they were miles away from the mines. #
Measles is caused by a virus that people can sometimes have. When an infected person coughs or sneezes or does something, it can spread through the air or infect the other person. This means that you can still get the disease even if the infected person doesn’t directly sneeze or cough on you.
Treatment
There is no particular treatment for measles but today the best thing you can do is take fever reducers, antibiotics and vitamin A. In the mining days, they didn’t have any of this medication so they just had to leave it and rest. When you are an infant, you get a vaccination for measles. The miners didn’t know how measles were caused, the next morning they might have woken up to it. They still went work and kept mining and made it worse. This lead to some deaths because the measles were left untreated.

-
Treatment
These days, if you get typhoid fever then you take antibiotics for a couple of days and then you start to recover.
In the mining days, you couldn’t do much because they didn’t really have that much medicine. Even if they did, it would be pretty bad quality. If it’s left untreated, it can stay for a month or more and becomes very serious. Even life-threatening! #
Did you know that when someone was sick everyone would make them cuddle there maybe because when you are a kid your body handles the diseases better #
