Establish a Hiring policy

  1. Define the job well (job description)

Firing

  1. Hiring the best person for the job.
  1. Place the right person in the right job (career assessment)
  1. Think through crucial issues ahead of time. Compatible Values and federal guidelines
  1. Establish a trial period
  1. Examine the character of potential managers and executive team members. They establish the culture of the business

Consider meeting the spouse

Its discouraging and expensive to hire the wrong person

recruiting, training, and an unproductive employee

Reasons

Dishonesty

Disobedience

Laziness

Incompetence

Before Firing

Institute a trial correction period

Conduct an exit interview

Provide job referrals

Firing an employee is not unchristian

Promotions

Your business can fail or succeed based on who you chose to promote

Pray for direction

Evaluate how the person has done in the past (faithful, blessing of God)

Remember: Talent can take you to places your character can't sustain you

Paying Employees

Responsibilities

People are a companies most valuable assets

Communicate expectations and dissatisfactions (be clear and do it early)

Done when necessary keeps problems from building up

It is not biblical to dump long term employees because you can hire younger employees and pay them less

Recognize and reward good work

This encourages you employees

Ultimately the business will benefit

Reward displays of loyalty

Treat employees well

Care for them as people

Cultivate relationships between coworkers

Act fairly and humainly

Character flaws need to be corrected

If you have taken steps to correct them but they haven't made steps to change they need to be let go

Firing an employee may help them move to another place where they can flourish

Employees must conform to company rules

Biblical Foundations

  1. God doesn't require that everybody be paid the same amount
  1. Those who do better work should be paid more
  1. God demands fairness in paying employees
  1. An employer has the responsibility to meeting the minimum needs of an employees

The love in the workplace should be like the love Christ demonstrated when he went to the cross
