EVOLUTION
HYPOTHESIS vs THEORY
HYPOTHESIS
A suggested explanation for an observable phenomenon, or a reasoned prediction of a possible casual correlation among multiple phenomena.
THEORY
In science, a theory is a tested, well-substantiated, unifying explanation for a set of verified, proven factors.
The Theory of Evolution is regarded as a scientific theory since various hypotheses relating to evolution have been tested and verified over time.

DEFINITIONS
BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION
Any change in a population that is inherited over several generations. These changes may be small or large, noticeable or not so noticeable.
BIOLOGICAL SPECIES
A group of individuals that can breed together ( panmixa ). However, they cannot breed with other groups - they are reproductively isolated.
-
-
EXTINCTION
The end of an organism or of a group of organisms ( taxon ), normally a species. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of a species, although the capacity to breed and recover may have been lost before this point
VARIATION
CONTINUOUS
-
Height, weight, heart rate etc.
-
DISCONTINUOUS
-
Tongue rolling, finger prints, eye color, blood groups etc.
-

-
-
FORMATION OF NEW SPECIES

-
GEOGRAPHIC ISOLATION
If a population of a single species becomes separated by a geographical barrier ( sea, river, mountain, lake etc. ) then the population splits into two.
-
Since each population may be exposed to different environmental conditions / the selection pressure may be different, natural selection occurs independently in each of the two populations such that the individuals of the two populations become very different from each other - genotypically and phenotypically.
Even if the two populations were to mix again, they will not be able to interbreed. The two populations are now different species

Development of resistant starins of tuberculosis-causing bacteria ( MDR and XDR ) to antibiotics, due to mutations (variations) in bacteria and failure to complete antibiotic course
