      - EXTERORECEPTORS (Receives stimuli from the environment; they are located near the surface of the body)
        
        Examples
        
        Rod and cones on retina : photoreceptors
        
        Hair cells in the ear : mechanoreceptors
        
        Olfactory receptors in the nose : chemoreceptors
        
        Taste receptors on the tongue : chemoreceptors
        
        Skin receptors : tactile, mechano, thermo, nociceptors
