Elements and Principals of Design
Principles
Balance
The design should include balance, and should not include any over the top features
Contrast/Harmony
Harmony is important to provide a design that does not have clashing features. Contrast intends that the design should include some aspects that are carefully and logically implemented to display a degree of positive yet subtle difference between elements
Consistency
All instances of the final design should remain the consistent, and all design principles throughout should also remain consistent
Scale
Scale will depend on the difference types of stationary and the size of the average office desk. Once the information is gathered it will be important to make sure all compartments are too scale
Elements
Texture
As the product will be primarily made of wood, and any texture added must support the wood and its texture
Shape
The product will be a large square with two different materials implemented into one
Colour
The design should use natural colours that relate to the environment that it will be placed in. Possible having multiple colours to choose from
Form
The design must incorporate a formal form that allows best use of its given size. This can be done with accurate measurements
Tone
The tone of the product must be reflective of the materials chosen. The design will incorporate a light tone that is true to its natural colour of the material
