Jurassic World Theme Abbie Towler
Sonority
Strings (orchestral) such as violins, cellos, violas; trumpets and trombones; percussion, bass, harps are heard at one point also
Dynamics
Range of dynamics within the piece but mainly around forte (loud) with gradual changes of crescendo and diminuendo, for the parts with instruments such as harp etc. (soft instruments) and thin/sparse texture then the dynamics increase
At the beginning, the dynamics start at around mezzo-forte and increase to forte using crescendo to build tension within the piece
At about 2 minutes in, the dynamics reduce to about mezzo-piano and stay around there for a calmer part of the piece which lasts about a minute, after there's a small change as the music transitions to the main melody of the song and this is when the dynamic increase slowly to show a more powerful but calm side to the music. The dynamics here increase to around forte or fortissimo
Once the main melody has finished, the music drops rapidly to piano (terraced dynamics) before building again gradually and falling once more only this time with diminuendo, the violins playing behind the trumpets and other brass instruments have varying dynamics as they go from forte to piano quickly (faster crescendo and diminuendo but not quiet terraced dynamics)
Structure
No definite structure within the piece, main melody played only once in one phrase, other phrases fade from the different themes during a transition
Rhythm and Metre
The metre/rhythm in the music is difficult to make out however a lot of the time the notes are equal in length to each other when played consecutively, this may be because other instruments play the variations of the note lengths, however the melody is played differently with a few trills and accents, the note duration becomes longer for sad or to accompany the higher shorter note durations for tension
Tempo
In the beginning the tempo is very slow, about largo, however it's difficult to tell with changing note durations and the use of instruments
At about 5 minutes the tempo slows again only to about allegretto as it appears slower at first but then seems to speed up
Roughly 3 minutes in the tempo varies, speeding up (accelerando) as the main melody plays until reaches allegro
At about 2 minutes the tempo is slightly faster to show serenity within the piece, it's about adagio or andante
Harmony
No singular instruments plays the chords of the piece at any given time, however at about five minutes in the piece seems to change so that the ostinato the violins are playing reflect the notes of the chords being used
Melody
Changes theme throughout, from happy to sad to eerie. This thematic transformation doesn't seem to use the same melody throughout however, the main melody is played by brass instruments (it is a motif for the movie)
The motif is played the same way as it was in the original Jurassic park movies, there's ornamentation used in the background of a higher pitched instrument which sounds like a brass instrument
The beginning clearly holds tension with low pitches of instruments mixed with higher all with slow, long note durations
Variation in note durations, long drops to short in the beginning part of the piece played by violins to create a dramatic and eerie tension
After the main melody is played, the violins begin to play with shorter note durations in a higher pitch to give the impression of something sinister (also using flats and sharps) before it then returns to a happier feeling piece using longer note durations with the violins and an ostinato behind the trumpets and other brass instruments playing another ostinato for a short while
Texture
At the beginning the texture is fairly sparse but given the impression that it's fuller using echoes and reverberations in the music, the texture really thins at some points with only one higher pitched instrument playing which gives the music a tension
At around 2 minutes in, the texture changes to thin but with softer instruments, it then gradually builds layers with higher pitches to show calm and serenity
At approximately three minutes the music changes to the main motif/melody, this causes a build in the layers of texture to show power, after which the texture becomes sparse again down to just one instrument (at about 5:10) but as the dynamics use crescendo the texture then builds along with it
