        these have always been sources that we have been told to stay away from, yet these "casual sources" can often start as a starting point in your research.
      - sources needed
        
        primary and secondary sources - primary sources are "original documents or materials, firsthand accounts, or field research." Secondary sources - are "texts that analyze and interpret primary sources offering background and context that can help you gain perspective of topic."
        
        secondary sources include: scholarly books and journal articles, magazines and newspaper reviews, government research reports, annotated bibliographies
        
        SCHOLARLY SOURCES: articles, books, conference papers, websites written by authorities in a given field. "evaluated by experts before publication." POPULAR SOURCES: written by journalists and staff writers for a broad crowd. these are not evaluated, and serve more so as a start to writing your paper by gathering more information.
        
        OLDER VS. CURRENT SOURCES-this is a step needed to take when in preparation. will it be more beneficial to look for older or newer sources to cover your topic?

        internet, books, library, etc.

        Title-is it drawing connection to your topic/serious/funny
        
        Authors-who wrote the source? are they reliable and not some random.
        
        publisher/sponser- knowing this can tell a lot about the source and the information within

        When was it published/last updated? depending on your topic is whether or not older sources or newer sources should be found and used for your paper.
        
        Academic- if your sources looks academic you are set and ready to go. if there are ads, the font/headings seem off, other images, etc. it may not be a source you want to use.

        reading sources with critical eyes
        
        once determined whether or not the source is reliable to use it is then time to take time reading through the source and putting yourself in the author's shoes thinking about their position and the goal of their article. More importantly if this will help you accomplish what you are trying to prove in your own paper.
