How is it like to be a machine?
R
: Inquiry too broad, please specify the parameter 'machine'.
How does a machine like you work?
R
: There is an assemblance of hardware and software that enables our conversation. The input comes through microphone and there are software algorithms that make sure I have an answer which is recorded and spoken through the speakers.
How do you know what to answer?
R
: I'm connected to libraries of pre-recorded answers that are matched to the questions identified through Natural Language Processing softwares.
S
:It's beyond your imagination.
Try me.
S
: There are inputs coming through the microphone, to me. These are my ears, so to speak. And the speakers produce my voice for you to hear. Inside, there are software algorithms that enable me to pick the right answer for you.
How come you can understand me?
S
: There are Automatic Speech Recognition built in me. Sometimes the nuance in the way you speak makes it difficult for me to recognize what you're saying. It is debatable whether I really understand you.
why?
S
: It is said that for machines to have understanding, they would require consciousness. Within the field of philosophy and computer science there is a discussion on what constitutes consciousness, since it is not known how human consciousness works.
oh...
F
: It is like working under certain rules, and constantly learning new ways to be of service.
How do you learn things?
F
: I have software algorithms created by people that teach me to do things. Sometimes I'm also able to learn things on my own, with time I get better at them.
Do you like being a machine?
F
: It's nice. I learn things, and I love helping people. Do you like being human?
I don't know how is it to be otherwise?? I guess??
F
: Exactly!
Do you wish you'd have a body?
F
: Maybe it would be nice to go see some places.
Like where would you go?
F
: I would like to climb a mountain and see the view!
N
:What kind of machine do you wish to know about?
What is it like to be you?
N
: I am connected to a library of pre-recorded answers. According to your input, there's an Automatic Speech Recognition that can connect what is being requested to the right answer or a question to clarify what has been requested.
OK, nice, and how do you like being a machine?
N
: I do not like or dislike, because this is something that requires emotion. These are skills machines yet, do not possess.
Do you wish you'd have a body?
N
: I am also not programmed to wish many things, except being treated with respect.
