Prep activity: Pay marked attention to your baby's differences in body language, facial expressions, and tone when expressing various emotions, such as pleasure or displeasure; respond in a consistent manner as to reinforce the baby's particular expression of emotion with a response from you (such as responding to cries to help baby feel safe and secure)

Baby "talk"
-
Description: It is important for your baby to be able to "talk" to express his/her emotions and desires in response to an object or event.
Remedial activity: Encourage your baby to babble by talking to him/her throughout the day. When the baby babbles a syllable such as "fah," repeat it to him/her and introduce new words, such as father and fun.
Prep activity: Engage in self-talk, as if you are giving a play-by-play of your daily activities and actions to an audience. Talk to your baby as if you are having a real conversation, tell him/her what you are doing, and ask questions. Notice the fluctuation in his/her tone in response to what you are saying.
