you attend a first part of weekly meeting (Tue, noon) and update with info and stat about the pipeline. we receive weekly and monthly reports for incomes and a flow (expected deals)

run daily standups, measure the track record of each person within the department: sales, calls, e-mails, leads, etc.. EACH PERSON has his/her own daily KPI's. they are achievable and achieved. If they aren't: see "fire":)
