Looking at you?

Prep Activity: Place your baby in a position where your face is in full view and make funny faces and sounds.
Baby sounds
-
Description: The first 3 years are the most formative regarding language development, and making sounds is your baby's first step towards effective communication. At 0-2 months, he/she may be far from forming words, but he/she will be learning how to express satisfaction and other emotions through adorable goo-goo's and ga-ga's! Tip for activities: Keep in mind that different sounds will stimulate your baby's hearing and encourage mimicking.

Steady head
-
Description: At 0-2 months, your baby is developing his/her ability to control posture; postural control will initially develop in the head and neck and gradually extend towards the trunk and lower extremities. Currently, he/she should begin to stabilize his/her head independent of help. Tip for activities: keep in mind that babies are highly motivated to initiate motor behavior by sensory input; in particular, vision and sound are key motivational forces while your baby is developing head control. (ref: pg 5)
Remedial Activity: When babies first learn to steady their head, they often lift their shoulders in conjunction with their head to help with stabilization. While dangling a toy in front of your baby, support your baby's shoulders with your hands in order to facilitate his/her ability to stabilize his/her head independently. Gradually decrease the amount of support your hand provides when elevating your baby's shoulders. (ref: pg 5)
Prep Activity: Dangle a toy that makes sound in front of your baby to encourage him/her to hold his/her head up. (ref: pg 7)
