As a passive follower initially as our technology classrooms did not have access to digital technology.
I am now leading digital and collaborative change in my classroom with the support of a colleague who is an ICT expert at our school as a peer coach. I will trail my program an then share my new knowledge with the rest of my technology team.
Jess - Early Adopter - e-team member, team leader
Charlene Late majority, part time teacher, new to school and programs.
In relation to the digital innovation implemented at our school I have shown participative and transformational leadership, as well as followership. As a relative newcomer to the platforms and programs utilized, in terms of my followership, I am following directions, asking for help and meeting deadlines of using specific aspects of the innovation. I am then developing in to a transformational and participative leader as I take the programs back in to my own practice and sharing, motivating and reflecting as a teacher.

The styles I feel I used within my leadership roles in ability groups was coaching, visionary, democratic, transformational and participative. In terms of the coaching model, I was able to use my digital knowledge and ability to learn things quickly by doing to replicate this in my ability group by showing them how to use the device and/or programmes. I have self-confidence and the ability to have empathy for others, which links in with the visionary leadership style. The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others and value their opinion helps with the democratic style of leadership. An example of this would be using Schoology to create a collective bank of resources that all teachers worked collaboratively together on. I believe I showed enthusiasm and a continued needed to move on staff forward in their learning by finding new ideas and embracing the change, these skills integrating with a transformational leadership style. Although being a part of the e-team I was consider an ‘expert’ I still encouraged other staff members to show their skills to others as learning from each other is key when working through a change initiative. This participative style is defined as a “… power-sharing arrangement in which workplace influence is shared among individuals who are otherwise hierarchical unequal’s.” (Gill, 2016)
Later, as a leader in my classroom, I took a Participative leadership role where I motivated, guided and managed a group of students to utilize the use of the laptops in my classroom environment. I gave the student’s a sense of ownership and responsibility to achieve success using a range of digital devices in a positive, supportive learning environment. I also provided leadership opportunities for students with specific digital technology expertise to help and support their fellow students. Amanda O’Brien quoted in my interview; “As a teacher, you have committed yourself to the laptop programme and professional development that coincides with this. You are open to change, accept feedback willingly, and ask questions when needed. As the HOD of Literacy, you encouraged and supported the use of the laptops within classroom programmes.”

Quotes
‘You have to work hard to change an organisation successfully. When you plan carefully and build the proper foundation, implementing change can be much easier, and you'll improve the chances of success. If you're too impatient, and if you expect too many results too soon, your plans for change are more likely to fail.’ (cited from https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newPPM_82.htm)
