      - Medial: Deltoid ligament, Post tibial tendinitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, Distal tibial fracture
        
        Did the foot evert prior to the pain?
        
        Yes
        
        Were you able to walk 4 steps on that ankle immediately after the injury?
        
        Yes: Deltoid Ligament Sprain
        
        No: Consider fracture of tibia or fibula?
        
        No
        
        Is there swelling around the back of the ankle? Are shoes rubbing the inside of the ankle?
        
        Yes: Posterior Tibial tendinitis
        
        No: Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
      - Anterior:
        
        Was there rotation of the ankle or trauma before the pain?
        
        Yes: High ankle sprain or fracture
        
        Pain in the lower anterior portion of the leg just above the ankle
        
        No: Arthritis, Gout,RA,CPPD(Crystal Pyrophosphate Deposition Disease), Reactive arthritis
        
        Chronic ankle pain
      - Lateral: ATFL, Distal Fibula Fracture, Peroneal tendinitis, Chronic ankle instability
        
        Did the foot invert prior to the pain?

        No: Consider fracture of tibia or fibula?
        
        Yes: Lateral Ligament sprain
        
        No: Consider peroneal tendinitis
