Anishnaabe World by: Roger Spielmann. This is a survival guide. It has a little bit of profanity mostly to instill humor while breaking stereotypes of First Nation’s people and their culture. It is a biography of a non-native who lived in an Anishinaabe community for 11 years and tries to communicate important cross cultural awareness. This book will answer most basic questions like taxes, government, control of affairs, body language, communication, expectations, relationships, child rearing, Tobacco, Indian time, the use of the word Indian... In order to help resolve problems Canadians and the world have with Native communities we need to know the ways of FNMI communities to take action, not just empathize with their problems. If not academic enough for the students, this is a must read for the teacher. I would use this to brainstorm prior knowledge, answer some basic questions before actually diving into a novel.
