Life After Death
-
Spiritual Experience
-
Bodies rot in the ground, how can they actually physically be in heaven with god?
-
Beatific Vision Direct and eternal communication with God, you are completely in the presence of and surrounded by god. Some people interpret this as salvation. It is the communication the individual has with God
Actual Places
Physical Bodily Resurrection. once we die we remain in the timeless presence of god. There is somewhere you go after you die
Paul ''for if the dead are not raised, then christ would not be raised either''
Evidence - book of revelation describing Hell 'Fiery Lake of burning sulphur''.Augustine has also said that hell is where people literally burn eternally in flames.
Symbolic
Liberal Christians often see places such as heaven and
hell as symbolic and neither a real physical place or somewhere you visit in a spiritual sense.
A literal interpretation of scripture is unrealistic, when heaven describes eternal life, it is on about the life we live now and not a life after death.
Tillich on divine memories - We ourselves do not live in in
a physical sense, however, the good things we did our what we accomplish live on eternally and forever in the memories of god. This is what the bible means when they refer to a heaven. This is selective, bad things are forgotten
