Surgeons did not use anaesthetics.

Experiments and operations were performed in non sterile rooms very quickly to avoid infections.

The Victorians took death photographs as it cheaper than having a portrait painted of dead family members. This was known as post-mortem photography.

Most photos were of children because there was a high child death-rate.

They could change an amputation in less than a minute.

They relied on preparing the patient mentally and giving them alcohol or opiates to dull their senses.

After 1846, ether or chloroform were used as an anaesthetic.

Equipment was not sterilised so people would get diseases after surgery and could die.

Modern day medical equipment uses electricity for example x-ray machine.

Doctors use medical machinery to check the patients vitals signs after they have had an operation or are in hospital for example an heart rate monitors.

Barbers were allowed to perform basic medical procedures.

All medical procedures have to be performed by a qualified doctor or Nurse.

Experiments are all performed in a sterile environment.
