though there is criticism that INC was brainchild of British, the contributions of INC to the freedome struggle is unpresidented.
what gave rise to INC
these political indians generally fought for things such as no lowering import on textile form britain, no expansion of army to overseas, freedom for press.. ilbert's bill etc..
there were many small political agitations on various aspects against the colonialism. this the also the time fo rise in many local associations, majour nationalist newspapers.. there was a new political spirit arising in the nation..
through various small agitations and few failures, political Indians were quick to learn lessons. they realized then need an single organisation on all India basis to fight for Indian interest vi-a vis foreign rule.
During the later half of the nineteenth century, there was the rise of political indians, modern intellectuals..
INC strive to promote national unity
congress was itself intensely secular
people were not familiar of modern politics, popular participation, mobilizations.
to foster the feeling of national unity, INC sessions were held in different regions of the country, president ws chosen from region where session was held.
to provide platform for agitation for members from different region, INC took matter which the whole nation has participation.. this is the reason they refrained form social reforms..
they have to carefully nurture the feeling of nations-unity among the Indians. as leaders said, nations-in -making
they struggled to create political opinion among people. training and consolidation of public opinion was major task for INC leaders.
their first step was unification of opinion among the national educates.
Indian nationalist leader were aware of Indian diversity and unfamiliarity of people with ideas such as, politics was not preserve of few but to everyone.. was not yet familiay
It gave a platform for sustained political activity instead of just grievance redress of immediate problem.
these leaders had the task of undestanding the complex nature of colonialism, at the same time educate the people.
