Describing the issue
- 1 in 6 of us are fearful of flying, and this fear can be associate with other phobias and anxiety disorders (fear of heights/claustrophobia)

A person's fear of flying will be reinforced if their friend agrees to drive or take a ferry instead of flying, which the person is afraid of
Negative reinforcement -> avoiding an object/situation associated with their phobia due to anxiety.
The avoidance behaviour reduces this anxiety and becomes negative;y reinforced (phobia is maintained)

A person may develop and fear of flying through a previous flight experience where there was turbulence, resulting in fear and anxiety.
- Prior to experiencing turbulence
- Flying = NS and fear = UCS
- After unnerving experience of turbulence
- Flying = CS
- Associated with anxiety experienced during turbulent flight
- Anxiety = CR to flying
