Mr Birling is an upper-class business man. He is a factory owner who presumably does not care about the lower classes and is happy to cause death just for the sake of getting more wealth and money. Mr Birling is very uptight and only cares about him and his family. He is rather obese and often will have his head up high, probably in order to show power. He has three children and a wife. This wife is called Sybil Berling. His children are called Eric, Gerrald and Shelia Berling. Shelia is getting engaged in chapter one. In my opinion, he is a character that is solely designed to give contrast to other characters.
