Fiery red eyes stare me down as I count the seconds to my terrifying fate by moa. No. GIANT moa, king of the ngahere (bush/forest), the tatahi (beach), the whenua (earth). What would they say? "Glad to be rid o' that old bag o' bones" or "Told you he wasn't worth naming". Mau Mau new what the nick name his parents gave him meant (because they were so ashamed of how weak and thin he was they didnt think he deserved a proper name) it meant useless, and thats what he was. Wasn't he?
