60 year old teacher with c/o of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS),…

- - - - Acute prostatitis. Other sx: not very subtle; typically acutely ill with spiking fever; chills; malaise; myalgia; dysuria; irritative urinary sx (frequency, urgency, urge incontinence); pelvic/perineal pain; cloudy urine.
      - Chronic prostatitis. Other sx: can be quite subtle; recurrent UTIs (frequency, dysuria, urgency, perineal discomfort, maybe low-grade fever); repeated isolation of same organism from urine; prostate exam frequently normal but may have hypertrophy, tenderness, edema, nodularity
    - - Sx of neurologic disease => neurogenic bladder. Other sx: diseases such as CVA; PD; MS; SC injury
      - Non-neurogenic/idiopathic causes: bladder outlet obstruction, usu. secondary to BPH, postoperative pelvic surgery, bladder stones or other foreign bodies.
