Battles
The battle of Britain was the first defeat of Germany had faced. Hitler's plan was to bomb Britain and pave the way for a direct invasion. The German air force caused great damage in Britain. In September they stated to bomb London and other major cities which Britain called "the blitz".Eighty Canadian pilots joined Britain to fight off the German army.In the early days 16 Canadians had lost their lives but things started to improve overtime and soon the battle for Britain was over. The Allied forces shot down 3000 German aircraft while losing 900 of their own.
The Battle of Ortona was the biggest test for Canadian soldiers. The Germans bombed down buildings so the soldiers had to leave the tanks behind and go on foot. They went form house to house on foot using the method called "mouseholing". The soldiers blasted a hole in the outside wall of a house at the end of the street, they then throw in grenades to clear the house before charging in and clearing the rest of the house with machine guns, soon they would move to the attic and blasted a hole in the wall to the adjoining house and repeated the process all over again. For a week the Canadian solider fought a fierce and intense battle and finally two days after Christmas, they succeed in driving the Germans out of Ortona. they lost over 2300 officers and soldiers while fighting.
In the fall 1941 the Japanese troops invaded pats of China and defeated them.Hong Kong feared that its Pacific colony would be next. Prime Minister Winston Churchill asked Canada for help with defense. King agreed to Churchill's request and in November 2000 soldiers from Quebec's Royal Rifles and the Winnipeg Grenadiers were send to Hong Kong.On December 7, just hours after the attack on pearl Harbor, over 50 000 Japanese troops invaded Hong Kong. The Allies were outnumbered by a majority, however they still fought for 17 days and on Christmas day,1941 the British commander surrendered.

in 1940 there was a growing concern that is Britain fell to the Nazis. North America would be Hitler's next target, so in response to this the United States and Canada signed the Ogdensburg Agreement which created the permanent joint board on defense to coordinate the defense of both countries
In 1941, the Lend-Lease Act allowed The United States to sell war products to any country they wanted meaning that Britain could buy supplies from the US without delay payment, however if Britain were to start buying products from the US they would buy less from Canada, so in response to this the Hyde Park Agreement made sure that US brought supplies from Canada which allowed Britain to buy supplies from Canada as well, while under the term off the Lend-Lease Act.
