Air Pressure
-
-
We live at the bottom of that ocean of air and all of the air molecules above us have weight, which pushes against us.
-
-
What is Latitude?
-
Places closer to the equator {low latitude} receive more sunlight than places near the poles {high latitude}

Air Masses
What is an air Mass?
-
Depends if it is over
land or water,
AND where it is
coming from.

Types of Air Masses
Cold Air Front
Occurs when a cold air mass replaces a warm air mass.
Warm air is pushed up because it is less dense.
Moves quickly and temperatures drop rapidly.
May result in thunderstorms, severe weather or snow.
Warm Front
Occurs when a warm humid air mass replaces a cold dry air mass.
It rises slowly over the cold air mass.
-
-
Stationary Front
Occurs when warm and cold fronts stop when they meet because neither is strong enough to overtake the other.
The weather is often cloudy,
The temperatures and wind may be different on either side of the front.
Climate - describes surface and atmospheric conditions over a longer period of time and over a large area.
Weather - describes conditions in the atmosphere at any time or short period of time. Weather conditions may change suddenly.
