what a tornado is.
A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth.
A tornado is hot air and cold air chasing each other round and round picking up anything in its way.
A tornado is as a rotating, funnel-shaped cloud that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground with whirling winds that can reach 300 mph.
Damage paths of tornadoes can be in excess of one mile wide and 50 miles long. Tornadoes can accompany tropical storms and hurricanes once on land.
Rotating thunderstorms are the best predictors of tornado activity. They are well defined thunderstorms on radar that may include hail, severe winds, lightning, or flash floods.
Tornadoes can occur when a warm front meets a cold front, forming a thunderstorm, which then can spawn 1 or more tornadoes.
Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3 pm and 9 pm, but can occur at any time.

Not all tornadoes are visible but their high wind speeds and rapid rotation often form a visible funnel of condensed water.
The Fujita Scale is a common way of measuring the strength of tornadoes. The scale ranges from F0 tornadoes that cause minimal damage through to F5 tornadoes which cause massive damage.
A tornado may appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms within the funnel.
Most tornadoes or cyclones travel from southwest to northeast and can move in the opposite direction for short periods of time. A tornado can even backtrack if it is hit by winds from the eye of a thunderstorm.

Can have wind speeds up to 180km/ph
New Zealand is not usually hit by tornados. Infact we are only hit by tornadoes on average twice a year. Tornadoes in NZ traditionally are 20m-100m in diametre and build over several kilometres.

A connection I can make to tornadoes is through visuals and reports I have learnt about them from the news on T.V. Although I have never been in a tornado I have been present in strong winds and see reports of tornadoes in Canterbury, a city in my warning home country. :warning:
Tornado's can last for several seconds to a hour they can nearly go from 0 to 70 mph most don't exceed there has been a tornado in hobsonvile in 2012 that killed three people there was also one in 2011 may the 2nd.Tornado's usually travel from south to north the most powerful tornado was in Oklahoma at 2.6 miles wide I can connect to a tornado because I have watched movies based on tornado's.
A tornado is a column of rotating air that is in contact with the earth and a Cumulonimbus, Funnel or Wall cloud. They have a speed of 110 miles (180 km/h).Tornadoes can also be identified as gustnado, dust devil, fire whirls and steam devil. My connection to tornadoes is the movies I´ve seen based with tornadoes in it.
