Nagy asked Krushchev if he would withdraw his soldiers from Budapest and on the 28th of October he agreed and pulled his Russian soldiers out
For the next 5 days Hungary was free. The new government introduced a democracy, freedom of speech and religion.
On the 3rd of November Nagy announced their departure from the Warsaw pact but Krushchev would not allow this so the next day he sent 1000 Soviet tanks to Budapest. They overwhelmed Hungarian forces so a rebellion began. Resulting in 4000 Hungarian deaths

Causes
Hungary did not want to be controlled by the SU, they had control over their economy so was making Hungary poor, they added censorship and banned religion

Effect/Result
Many Hungarians were imprisoned and 200,000 fled to Austria
