The black death
-
-
How did it spread?
It started off when an eruption woke a dormant species of bacteria called pasturella pestis. The bacteria got into the gut of fleas which incubated in rat's fur. The rats got onto Chinese ships which went through the Black Sea and into Europe. The first countries to be infected were Italy and Greece, and then slowly Northern Africa and Spain. It travelled up through France to England, arriving at Melcombe Regis in 1348. From there, it went to Scandinavia, and back to Russia. It finally wore itself down and died.
