- - - - For instance, many video games give players immediate access to level 2 as soon as they complete level 1 (all the way up to level 10, for example), but require them to collect enough stars or bonus points before they can go on to the next set of levels (say, 11-20). There is no "failing" or "grade" to be given out, but the students want to do as well as they can in order to get access to more difficult levels. The assessment system is built into the game, and students have intrinsic motivation to get a high score.
      - Some games have an experience point system that allows players to spend points to increase their powers as they go. Some teachers have designed their courses in a similar way.
