Definitions & intro
Dew point
-
Dew point= temp to which parcel of air w/ constant water vapour content must be cooled, at constant pressure, in order to become saturated
-
Dew point changes with pressure- decreases at 1/5th rate of dry adiabatic lapse rate for adiabatic lifting
-
Wind direction
-
E.G: northeasterly wind is coming from NE, travelling SW
-
Water vapour
-
-
-
Vapour pressure
At a given temp, vapour pressure is proportional to vapour density
-
Troposphere
-
-
-
Lowest layer of atm: 8km deep at poles, 16km deep at equator
-
Boundary layer
Exhibits large diurnal changes in many properties (depth, temp)
-
Dominated by turbulence and surface exchange processes- heat, moisture, momentum
