the battle of nasebey 1645
This was the most important battle of the civil war it happened in June 1645.
News reached Charles that the new Model Army was going to lay siege to Oxford. He marched to meet them.
After some small skirmishes Charles decided to stand and fight even though Prince Rupert advised him not to.
Fairfax had positioned his troops well and waited. He placed musketeers to the front, and cavalry on both flanks. his foot soldiers were in the middle.
Rupert's cavalry had the early advantage. But they did stopped their attack and rode off to attack Parliament's baggage camp.
Charles seemed to be winning. Cromwell saved the day. They attacked and kept their discipline. Gradually the Royalists were overwhelmed.
