Urinary System

Urine formation
Reabsorption:
Peritubular capillaries reabsorb materials the body can make use of; water, glucose, amino acids, ions.
Mostly active, some passive
Secretion:
Materials move from peritubular capillaries into renal tubules; hydrogen, creatinine, drugs. Materials left in renal tubule move toward the ureter
Filtration: No ATP used
-Forced through filtration membrane of glomerulus hydrostatic pressure
-Filtrate is collected in the glomerular capsule and enters the renal tubule
Not reabsorbed; urea, uric acid, creatinine and excess water
Ureters
-
-
Convey urine, formed in the kidneys to the urinary bladder by peristalsis and gravity

Nephron

Peritubular capillaries:
-Efferent arteriole leaves the glomerulus and narrow capillaries warp around renal tubule
