Your skin
Your skin is the largest organ in the body and one of the most important. It make up 15% of the human body and if it was laid out flat it could cover a large dining-room table!
What does your skin do? - protecting your body from infection, holding your insides together, waterproofing your body, controlling your body temperature, warning you of damage because the nerves under the skin feel pain.
There will be major changes to your skin happening to you during puberty, like pimples and more oily skin. Skin is one of the main concerns of teenage girls and boys during puberty.
It weighs between 3 and 4 kilos, which is about the weight of a new-born baby. It is nearly 10 times bigger than your heart.
Hormones :confetti_ball:
Boys will get a hormone called Testosterone (tes-tost-erone) and girls will get a hormone called oestrogen (es-tro-gen).
-
Boys and girls will all experience some of the changes. these changes are caused by chemicals called hormones which are circulating through your bloodstream.
At around the age of 11 or 12, your pituitary gland (located at the bottom of your brain), receives a message from the brain to start doing puberty things.
-
Emotions :lock:
You may also feel hungrier and more tired due to your body growing You should get 9 or more hours of sleep every night. Eat food from all of the food groups.
Your emotions will vary throughout puberty and will sometimes change very quickly. Some days you may fell happy but the next you may fell glum.
Pimples! :pencil2:
Pimples are very common during puberty. About 85% of people going through puberty will get them and boys are more likely to get them than girls.
The most effected parts of the body are usually the face, chest, back and scalp.

Pimples are caused by the extra oil being produced from your oil glands in your skin. This oil is set off by the hormones travelling through your blood stream.
Smells :warning:
Your B.O. ( body odour ) is emitted through your sweat and oil glands and flares up more when your sweat glands emit more sweat. Eg: When you play sport.
Other Things :star:
Growing hair is probably one of the first signs that you're going through puberty. Your first hairs will be in the pubic areas and in the armpits.
Erections can be unexpected. Erections happen when the blood flow in the penis increases. These happen when you're thinking sexy thoughts or they may happen at random moments.
Growing pains and growth spurts. Growing pains are very normal as your body is stretching to different lengths. Growth spurts may cause you to grow up to 10.1 centimetres ( 4 inches )
