Semantic Network
There’s no assumption about the progression of generality to more specific concepts
do not connect concepts through propositions
Can be useful in describing
Semantic networks (associative networks) are directed graph connecting the nodes (representing concepts) to show a relationship or association between them
The nodes are traversed from the top of the network
represent knowledge through concepts enclosed in circles or boxes which are related via connecting lines or propositions
These cross-links help to visualize how different knowledge domains are related to each other.
In some maps Relationship between concepts (propositions) defined as cross-links.
Concept maps represent meaningful relationships between concepts in the form of propositions.
Inclusive concepts are found at the top of the map , less inclusive concepts arranged below
The vertical axis expresses a hierarchical framework for organizing the concepts.
semantic unit or unit of meaning: In the simplest form (just two concepts connected by a linking word to form a single proposition)
CmapTools
web-based browser to capture the knowledge of experts to be used by student of domain
Alleviates navigation problem with concept maps
Serves as the browsing interface to a domain of knowledge
capture and formalize knowledge as models to be viewed and shared through the Internet
Icons below the concept nodes provide access to (images and pictures, media resources)
Browser provides a window showing the hierarchical ordering of maps
