Accept parent statement
Conveying verbal and nonverbal acceptance of parents’ statement helps the parents feel they are value. As parents are more likely to speak freely and openly when they feel respected.
Listen Actively
Listening to a parent and providing feedback to what they are saying allows the parent to be more open to expressing concerns of their students to the teacher.
Question Effectively
Using open-ended questions when communication with parents allows them to open up more and feel you are interested in their information.
Encourage
Parents love to her their students positive news, therefore providing parents with information of their student success will encourage the parents to be more involved and communicate with the teacher during important events and/or meetings.

Strategies for Positive Parent-Teacher Conferences
Build Rapport
Establishing a mutual trust and respect is important for a teacher and the student’s parent to build. Before starting the conference on statement involving the student, it is best to talk about events the family may be interested in and/or positive conversation about community.
Obtain information
Teachers should provide open-ended questions to allow the parents to elaborate on information needed for the student outcome.
Provide information
When conducting a parent-teacher conference, the teacher should provide examples of the students work and data of their performance. In addition, the teacher will speak to the parents in jargon-free language, for them to understand the information being provided.
Summarize and follow up
At the end of the parent-teacher conference, the parent and teacher should come with a mutual agreement of the student progress and what tools may be needed to help the student achieve in their academics. In addition, the teacher will provide the parents with information to help the student at home along with strategies they will do in the classroom.

Ways to Encourage Parent Involvement
Parent Education and Support Group
As mention in the parents as tutors example, many parents would benefit from learning skills to utilize at home to increase their students learning. In addition, to the parents learning new skills from their student's teacher, it is important for the parents to be involved in a support group to which they are able to find different strategies from other parents who are experiencing the same disadvantages.
Parent-to-parent groups
As the parents may receive information from their student teacher and/or support group, they are also able to met with individual sessions with another parent who would be a support as they are dealing with the same situation with their own child.
Parent as tutors
Parents with a child with special needs may need support at home when teaching their child strategies related to their schooling. Therefore, teacher should provide the parents with information to become their child tutors to help them continue their education at home through real-life situation.
