Total Company Training Plan
Definition
Proposal of training programmes that an organisation intends to implement over a 12-months period. It aims to encourage companies to adopt a total and systematic approach to training involving all levels of staff in the organisation
Purpose
To provide a comprehensive and objective training package for all levels of staff in an organisation
Format
Components of Company Learning Plan
Time
Plan the CLP schedule against the company’s main operation so that the training program to be conducted will not cause any disruption to the workflow
Rate of the employees turning up for training can also be affected by their time availability
Budget
Affects the type and duration of the program conducted
Learning budget is set at the start of every financial year to provide for learning needs identified by the HODs
Learning budgets for all departments are consolidated by HR, together, in consultation with Finance, for final approval by the Managing Director
With higher budget, more extensive spread of learning programs can be provided to a larger group of employees in the organisation.
Venue
Conduct learning programs in-house for convenience or cost-saving purposes. Look for a suitable space available internally that offers a comfortable and conducive environment
Need to consider participant size
External training providers offers training programs at their own grounds
Participant Size
Determined based on the individual Learning Needs Analysis. HR should ensure that selection of participants is objective and non-discriminatory
Objective
Certain methods are particularly suited for developing skills, some for helping trainees acquire knowledge, and others for changing attitudes. Therefore methods must be chosen with the course objectives in mind
Trainer Providers
Trainer should avoid any method he is not familiar with until he has mastered the necessary skills to use it efficiently
Types of Training Program
On-the-job: all types of training offered by the employer to his employees which takes place at the work site
Off-the-job: training carried out by parties external to the organisation and usually on premises not owned or controlled by the employer
