Didn't want spies; reason for capturing and imprisoning them unlike Jews who had done nothing wrong. LJ
Japanese taking innocent civilians and practiced cannibalism and torture. HA
American POW's also had poor living conditions HA
Only Japan had attacked America on its own soil. Not Germany or Italy. LJ
Germany and Italy didn't send spies to America or attack our soil. RJ
Rules of War: Non participants must be protected as well as prisoners and wounded. HA
They were trying to protect them from other dangers in getting out of the camps. HA
Says they were forced, but first asked to leave. If they had left, they wouldn't have been forcibly removed. RJ
Guards were protecting others from this man's mental illness and the danger he posed to others. LJ

We entered the war against Germany and Italy, so they were attacking us, but not on our soil. HJ
Rules of war: Not supposed to attack non-participants in the war. The guns were facing the Japanese Americans (non-participants) -- they weren't being protected. ZS
JA who tried to leave the camp was shot in the stomach. LP
Two guards were charged with attempted murder of two internees and did not receive severe consequences despite killing two people. Charged only $1 for cost of bullet used to kill internee (mentally ill). HJ
