8E - Atoms and elements
Elements: An element is a simple substance that and it's smallest form is an atom. There are over 100 types of elements and it's either man-made or from nature. All the elements are shown on the periodic table and each of the elements have a chemical symbol. It's usually split in two groups, non-metal and metal.
Non-metal: To find a non-metal in the periodic table, it's on the right hand side. Non-metals are dull, not a good electricity conductor and it's gases or solid with a lower melting point.
Metal: To find a metal in the periodic table, it's on the middle and left part. Metals are shiny solids with high melting point. It's magnetic and it conducts electricity.
Compounds: Compounds are many elements joined together perfectly because if it doesn't join it's a mixture. An example of a compound is magnesium oxide which is magnesium joined with oxygen.
8H - The rock cycle
-
The cycle: The rock cycle could go in any directions but the most common way is from sedimentary to metamorphic to igneous. The sedimentary rocks are form when erode pieces and materials are bond together. After that, the rocks will be pushed deeper into the Earth which creates metamorphic rock. Deeper into the Earth, igneous rocks will be formed because of the volcanos.
