15% of minority live in overcrowded homes.
Pakistanis 2x more likely to be in seme/un skilled jobs compared to whites
According to the swann report, social class differences account for a high proportion of differences in achievement between ethnic groups
Racism in society
Mason (1995): discrimination is a continuing and persistent feature of Britain's citizens of ethnic origin
Rex(1986): Racism leads to social exclusion and accordingly poverty. This is shown in employment, housing and education. Racism also leads to discrimination both inside and outside of the classroom
Noon (1993): Sent identical letters to top 100 UK companies but alternated between 'Evans' and 'Patel' and found that replies to 'white candidate were more helpful and informative
These arguments however are fairly outdated, in school culture today there tends to be growing ethnic minority groups/subcultures so they are not excluded. Noon's study could be unreliable as it was only done once and not everyone would pay attention to the names or even picture the persons identity

Ethnocentric curriculum
Troyna&Williams and David(1993) - Argued the national curriculum is specifically british and focuses on white culture, ignoring non european literature, languages and music
Ball (1994) 'Little Englandism' Focuses on white history and glories and ignores the history of Black and Asian people
Coard highlights how black culture and history is taught to be primitive and how white people civilised such groups
-
Individual racism
Institutional racism results from the inbuilt discrimination from institutions such as the police, media and education
Hatcher: Racist behaviour is unchallenged&ignored in many schools, lack of formal strategies in place to deal with such events
