Skill Classification

Discrete, Continuous and Serial skills
Discrete: Skill which has a clear beginning and end, it is also one short sharp action e.g. Tennis serve
Continuous: Skill which has no clear beginning and end, the end of a subroutine usually leads onto the beginning of another e.g. Cycling

Serial: Skill that contains several discrete skills to make a more integrated movement e.g. Gymnastics

Gross and Fine Skills

Fine: Use of smaller muscle groups for greater control and precision when performing the skill e.g. Table tennis return
High and Low skills

High: Skill that can not be broken down easily as the subroutines merge as the skill is performed e.g. Football volley

Complex: Skill that requires lots of information to be processed before the skill can be attempted e.g. Hockey dribble
